In essence the Manhattan was a bad idea from the start. It is essentially a clone of the Remington 2. When The patents expired on the model 2 remington the manhattan was born. The theory was with how many Remington 2’s had been sold they would be able to be sucsessful by Cloneing it and remarketing it. There were a few small changes, for example the space bar, feed roller, shift lock mechanism, paper table, among a few others. Many parts Are even interchangable between the Manhattan and Remingtons. production lasted from 1896-1905, Under 15000 machines were produced and they have a very low survival rate today
