This Chicago typewriter was a very successful machine appearing right around 1900 production lasted until 1917. Using a single type element and a 1 inch wide ink ribbon they had a very high print quality. The machine was offered in iron, and aluminum frames, some name variants known are, Baltimore, Conover, Draper, Galesburg, Ohio, Yale. There are 3 main variations of the Chicago, the early decorated machine with more decorative designs on the name plate, the machine as pictured above which is identical in design to the decorated machine, but with simplified pinstripes, and the Chicago model 3 which is of a very much different deign and underwent many changes. including a narrower ribbon, a redesigned platen. and the lack of a frame surrounding the keyboard.
